Limits and their consequences
The pageview limit applies only to the Free plan. Exceeding it switches off the banner on your site.
Pageview limit on the Free plan
The pageview limit applies only to the free plan and is 5,000 pageviews per billing period. Once you exceed it, you have 24 hours to change your plan. After that we stop serving the code, so the banner disappears from the site together with script blocking.
Who does the limit apply to?
Only the Free plan: 5,000 pageviews. Basic, Pro and Enterprise have no pageview limit.
A pageview is every real visit to a page address, including a view change in a single-page application and going back with the back button.
Billing period
The window is one month long, but its start depends on the account's history. We count from one of three dates, in this order:
- from the end of the trial period, if the account had one,
- from the creation of the project,
- from the first day of the current month.
What happens when you exceed the limit?
- Warnings: at 50%, 75% and 90% we send an email to the project owner's address, on the Free plan only.
- Limit exceeded: we send an email saying the banner will be switched off in 24 hours.
- One day to react: we count from the time the email is sent, not from midnight.
- Pausing the project: we stop serving the code. The banner disappears and scripts run without the visitor's consent.
The pause happens once 5,500 pageviews are exceeded, which is the limit plus a 10% buffer. However, we calculate the warnings from the regular limit: you get the 90% email at 4,500 pageviews, and the limit-exceeded email at 5,000.
Notifications
We send them by email only, to the project owner's address. Other team members don't receive notifications, and the panel has no notification centre.
Visibility of the pause
- In the panel: the plan bar changes colour and shows how much of the limit has been used and the reason for the pause.
- On the site: the visitor sees nothing. The banner disappears and scripts run without the visitor's consent. Legal responsibility stays with you.
How do you restore the banner?
Change your plan. The pause is lifted immediately after purchase.
The pause also ends by itself at the end of the billing period, but we don't recommend waiting. In the meantime, the site runs without the banner and without script blocking.
Safeguards against pausing
- Re-checking the plan right before pausing.
- Detecting artificial traffic, for example from a single IP address.
- The pause ends with the billing period, not at the end of the month.
What doesn't count towards the limit?
- Pageviews from bots and measurement tools.
- Page prefetches by the browser.
- Excess traffic from a single address or a single network.
- Pageviews from a staging alias.
- Scans by our scanner bot and the banner preview in the panel.
Recognising bots by their signature works independently of the project settings.
Subpage limit for a domain
We measure the size of a domain ourselves. When a domain goes over the plan's tier:
- The plan doesn't change automatically. In the panel you'll see the status of the domain and a hint about which plan will cover it.
- An additional payment is required. Until then, the domain stays on the plan's last tier, scan depth included.
- We price domains above 10,000 subpages individually.
