Setting up CookieOfficer on Wix

Setup requires a paid plan and turning off the native Wix banner. The whole thing takes just a few minutes.

In Wix, you add the CookieOfficer code through Custom Code in your site settings. The setup takes a few minutes, but it requires a paid Wix plan and turning off the native banner that Wix offers. The instructions are below.

Before you start

Check three things:

  • Whether you have a paid Wix plan with a custom domain. Custom Code isn't available on the free plan or when you use a Wix URL.
  • Whether you have copied the code from the Installation page in the CookieOfficer panel. In the “Deployment method” section, choose “Code on the site”, then in the “Paste the code at the top of <head>” card click “Copy” next to the “CookieOfficer script” block.
  • Whether you have turned off the default Wix banner. Having two banners on one page isn't a desirable solution.

How do I add the CookieOfficer code to a Wix site?

  1. In the Wix dashboard, go to Settings, then open Custom Code.
  2. Click “+ Add Custom Code”.
  3. Paste the CookieOfficer code into the “Paste the code snippet here” field.
  4. Give it a name, for example CookieOfficer, to tell it apart from other code snippets.
  5. Under “Add Code to Pages”, choose “All pages”.
  6. Under “Place Code in”, choose “Head”, that is, the <head> section.
  7. Leave the loading option set to “Load code once”. Our script handles navigation between Wix subpages on its own, so the “Load code on each new page” option won't change anything.
  8. Click “Apply”, then publish the site.

Custom Code works only on a published site. The banner won't appear in the editor or in preview, so always check the result at the address of your own domain.

How do I turn off the default Wix banner?

Wix has its own consent banner, available in the dashboard under Privacy & Cookies. If you added it earlier, remove it before you publish the CookieOfficer code.

If you leave both banners in place, the visitor will see two banners.

How do I verify the setup?

Go back to the Installation page in the CookieOfficer panel and click “Verify now”. If it succeeds, you'll see the heading “Script detected and active”.

Then run a scan and go to the Cookies page. There should be no message above the list of detected items about trackers running after the visitor has rejected consent.

What should I expect from automatic blocking in Wix?

Wix inserts its own scripts independently of custom code, so some of them may start before our code. Automatic blocking will cover everything that runs later, but tools loaded by the platform itself may remain out of its reach.

You can check this with a scan. If trackers are still running after consent has been rejected, see the article Automatic and manual blocking for instructions on marking scripts manually.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Don't check the result in the Wix editor. Custom Code runs only on a published site.
  • Don't leave the Wix banner turned on. The visitor will see two consent windows, and the records of decisions will diverge between the two systems.
  • Don't paste the code into the footer or the body section. Blocking will then work only after some of the scripts have already run.
  • Don't forget to publish the site. Saved custom code doesn't work until it is published.
